Guys Night Out!
Some of my greatest friends in the world gathered at the Fremont Street experience on July 23 to just hang out. I was late and missed the eating part, but got to hang out. We smoked some cigars and wandered the freak show and had casual conversation. We didn’t go too deep but, just to be in the presence of friends made me feel connected to the universe, connected to God. However, during our loop we encountered a few "zealous" banner carrying evangelicals. You can see by the sign they were ready for battle with the whore mongers and sinners. One digitally enhanced sign bearer carried the Bible on a PDA and whipped out scriptures faster than a dog after a bone. The problem, however, was he ended up in more confrontations than conversions, and the yelling matches were more entertaining than the bad country western band. I was left wondering what a bad taste of Jesus this fellow left in the mouths of the tourists. Maybe, just maybe, a table with some free icy cold water and a foot washing tub may have served his purpose best.
I have been tagged by Kenny as to my reading habits, so here goes:
How many books do you own?
50 or so mostly design stuff and some odd production things. Heidi is my book Yoda. (If you count Heidi’s, community property and all, it’s probably in the 500+ range)
What was the last book you bought?
Searching for God Knows What by Donald Miller
What was the last book you read?
Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller
Name 5 Books that mean something to you.
Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell, I read this one time when I was questioning God and It touched a nerve in my heart.
The Life of Pi by Yann Martel, my wife and her friend Kristine read it and wanted me to read it and I did and it was a wonderful fable and journey. It was full of surprises and I actually had to reread some parts to put it all together.
Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien, (4 Books I’ll count as one), before the first movie came out I read all four books and was touched by each character and the journey they took. It seems during a good read, I tend to think in the meter of the writer and so I was thinking in Middle Earth for months and months.
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, after I read the LOR my daughter Caitlin challenged me to read something she read. I loved these stories and have only gotten up to book 5 but I promise I will finish them. They are laced love, imagination and inspiration.
Centennial by James Michener, It was the first monster book I ever read and I was swept away by the imagery and characters.
I tag Darren Relyea and Adam Hunt.
