The Audition

Through a series of events I ended up auditioning for Man of La Mancha this evening. It was awesome, the pianist played, I sang, the actors read, I acted. I may not get the part but I did find something much more. I re-connected with a part of me that was buried. My performer’s soul was buried because of the changing seasons of a family man’s life. Performing in the theatre was once my only passion. I moved to L.A to be an actor and ended up in Las Vegas dancing on the Strip. It’s funny, but the audition process has not changed one bit, but I have. Now I am a mature leading man with a song in his heart and a family at home that will love me even if I'm not a lyrical baritone. That is the big difference from my last stretch of performing life. It was just me being all about me. Now it is about freedom and peace. The freedom to know I don’t have to do it and the peace to know that it’s O.K. if I do. I've got a lot of work to do to get back into performing shape, literally and figuratively. But I did enjoy getting back into the game and I look forward to the next opportunity.
